URL Encoder/Decoder

Encode and decode URLs, handle query parameters, and generate slugs

About the URL Encoder / Decoder

URLs can only contain a limited set of characters, so spaces, symbols and non-English letters must be percent-encoded, for example a space becomes %20. This tool encodes text for safe use in query strings and paths, and decodes encoded URLs back to readable form so you can see what parameters a link actually carries. It is a quick helper when building API requests, debugging redirects or sharing links.

How to use the URL Encoder / Decoder

  1. Paste a URL, query parameter or plain text.
  2. Click Encode to percent-encode it, or Decode to read an encoded URL.
  3. Compare the encoded and decoded panels.
  4. Copy the version you need.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between encodeURI and encodeURIComponent?

encodeURIComponent encodes everything except letters, digits and a few marks, making it right for individual parameter values. encodeURI leaves characters like / ? & = intact, so it suits whole URLs.

Why does a + sometimes mean a space?

In HTML form submissions (application/x-www-form-urlencoded) spaces are sent as +. In the rest of a URL, a space should be %20.

Can I encode non-English text?

Yes. Characters are converted to UTF-8 and each byte is percent-encoded.
